Piano Day celebration and New releases
“Why does the world need a Piano Day? For many reasons. But mostly to celebrate the piano and everything around it: performers, composers, piano builders, tuners, movers and most importantly, the listener.” - Nils Frahm
29th of march was this years national Piano Day (on leap years it’s the 28th), but piano day is the 88th day of the year just as there are 88 keys on the piano. I released a new song called ‘The Wound’ to celebrate and also held a mini tour with fellow composers Eðvarð Egilsson and Miro Kepinski.
The Wound is the first single from my upcoming album ‘where the light enters’ which is inspired by a quote from the poet Rumi “The Wound is the place where the light enters you”. The album is set to be released in August in collaboration with Whitelabrecs and another single ‘in light of recent events’ is coming out on the 21st of April.
I also held three concerts with friends and fellow composers Eðvarð Egilsson and Miro Kepinski. We played in Mengi in Reykjavík 29th of March, Risið in Selfoss 30th March and in Duus Museum 1st of April. The Mengi concert was especially memorable since we got to collaborate with Physical Cinema, a festival in close collaboration with Stockfish Festival. They paired us up with a lovely visual artist, Marcel Crabeels from Belgium who provided each of our sets with original visuals. Also as an added bonus they got us free passes to the festival so I got see some amazing films, sticking out was ‘EO’ by Jerzy Skolimowski and ‘Smoke Sauna Sisterhood’ by Anna Hints which Eðvarð Egilsson also scored! This piano mini tour was also enjoyable since me and Eðvarð met Miro on our trip to Poland to participate in SyncCamp in Sopot. It’s a camp with composers and music supervisors from different countries working together to create new music and pitch it. The music supervisors gave us assignments (which I’m not allowed to talk about in detail) and would coach us. Anyways, it was nice to get to know him and now being able to invite him to Iceland to do something together.
Right now I’m working on releasing more music and creating more as well. Lots of grant application writing going on as well but hoping to have more time to play more concerts soon! Would also love to hear suggestions from you if you have any nice concert venues in mind. Let me know in the contact section.
I’m also excited to announce I’m planning on releasing sheet music so stay tuned!
